Does saw Palmetto help to reduce hair loss in men? Or is there any other herb?

Saw palmetto is a plant a small palm plant which predominates in North America mainly in Atlantic coast, Florida and Georgia. The brown-black berries are believed to have the active ingredients to prevent hair loss in certain type of baldness called androgenic alopecia. It is believed that it blocks an enzyme that acts as a catalyst in the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. The latter is considered a key factor for the onset of androgenic alopecia. However there are not enough scientific evidences to support this claim. Moreover saw palmetto like other herbal supplements has many side effects like stomach upsets, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, nausea, erectile dysfunction, libido changes and breast enlargement in men.

You can use bhrami or bhringraj oil which can be easily available in any ayurvedic shop in Calcutta. Lavender oil also works well for hair loss. Massage lavender oil on the scalp 3-4 times a week. Leave it over night and wash next day morning for best results.
