Preventing Excess Oil Formation on Skin

by Sam Malone

Oily skin makes the skin appear greasy, sticky and unhealthy. In addition this particular skin type is susceptible to breakouts such as acne and whiteheads, due to an excessive amount of oil being secreted by the sebaceous glands. Furthermore, when there is an extra amount of sebum being secreted, it causes the pores on the skin to enlarge, in order to let out this excess oil. Dirt and dust particles then begin to build up in these large pores. This creates an ideal environment for bacteria to thrive in which then leads to breakouts on the skin. The black spots that you mentioned are probably blackheads that have formed due to the oily nature of your skin. Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, oily skin has a tendency to trap dust particles, this is what is causing it to look dull and dark. Thus all you will need to do is keep your pores clean; this will prevent them from getting clogged while also getting rid of any accumulated sebum.

Here are a few home remedies to help reduce the oily appearance of you skin. Crabapples are considered to be excellent for oily skin. Mash a crabapple and apply the thick paste on your face. Leave the application on for 15-20 minutes, after which rinse it off with cold water. Crabapples contain alpha hydroxy acids which will help in toning and softening your skin. Milk in particular is great for oily skin, as it reduces the secretion of sebum and acts as an effective cleanser. Wash your face 2-3 times a day with a cup of cold fat free milk. This will keep the pores clean by getting rid of dirt and oil. Mix together two tablespoons of milk with 3-4 drops of lavender oil. Apply this mixture onto your face and let it dry for about 15 minutes, after which you can rinse it off with some cold water.

Make a thick paste by mixing together a tablespoon each of corn flour, rice powder and a few drops of lemon juice. Gently massage this paste on your face with the help of your finger tips, for a minute or two. Make sure that you use circular motions and do not apply too much pressure. Lemon juice being a natural bleaching agent will help in lightening the skin, while the rice powder will exfoliate it. Potato or cucumber juice can also be applied on to the face twice a week to get rid of excess oil.
