Winter Dry Skin and Dandruff

by Sharon Hopkins

Winter dry skin is a commonly observed skin issue and people all over have to find different ways of managing such dry skin. The problem is that moisture loss is all too common during winter and the cold air can hurt the skin and leave it dry and unhealthy. To add to this, people often simply avoid drinking the required quantities of water with the sole aim of avoiding those increasingly frequent bathroom visits due to the cold weather and the consumption of water. People tend to forget that dry skin is most commonly seen during winter although there are others who face this skin moisture problem all through the year. dandruff is yet another issue which has to be faced and it must be tackled effectively during winter.

For the dry skin problem, there would be nothing better than supplying your skin with moisturizer. One of the best ways to get this done would be to use petroleum jelly. This product would be better applied when the skin really needs the moisture and you should see the effects on your dry skin in a short while. Such an application would be appropriate before retiring for the day as well as after one's bath. There are other kinds of natural moisturizers which may be used for dry skin as home remedies, such as aloe vera. In this case, the clear gel may be slathered over the body such that the skin gets some moisture. What your dry skin care routine should also take into account is that hot water may seem like a great idea in those winter months but it can damage your skin. This is due to the moisture loss that your already dry skin suffers with the heat from the hot bath or shower water. It would be better if, for the sake of your skin, you keep the water temperature lower and avoid sapping your skin of its moisture by spending too much time bathing.

With regards to the problem of dandruff which people face during winter as well as other seasons, finding an effective shampoo or rather three such shampoos becomes important. This is because the best way to fight this scalp problem would be to rotate these, such that the dandruff shampoos do not lose their effectiveness. One can even find natural remedies like tea tree oil which are popular for fighting against some cases of dandruff.
