Treatment for Psychosis


The treatments for psychosis depend on its cause. The doctor usually attempts to address the cause of the condition and then performs the treatment accordingly. In some cases, hospitalization may be needed if the patient becomes a danger to the people around them. A patient is usually only hospitalized to ensure their own safety and the safety of others around them.

If the patient is experiencing hallucinations, the doctor may prescribe anti psychotic drugs to reduce the hallucinations as well as any delusional thoughts. These medications can also help you control your thinking as well as your general behavior. Some patients may require cognitive therapy for psychosis but most patients will usually not need it. In fact, medications are the most common treatment for psychosis.
