Symptoms of Plague



Plague is a disease that depicts a number of signs and symptoms, depending on the type of plague - Bubonic, Septicemic or Pneumonic. The signs and symptoms of the plague include:

  • Intense fatigue
  • Fever and chills through the body
  • General body aches
  • Headache, especially in the case of septicemic plague
  • Pain in the abdominal region, which may be due to septicemic plague
  • Swollen and tender lymph nodes, which are called buboes, characterize bubonic plague
  • Sputum, dotted with blood, may be expelled in certain cases of pneumonic plague
  • One may experience nausea or vomiting
  • Constipated stools or loose stools with a black, tarry appearance
  • Coughing and difficulty in breathing, especially observed in pneumonic plague
  • Generalized confusion or even seizures, in the latter stages of the infection
