Diet for Peripheral Neuropathy


Diet too plays a big role. A diet for the treatment of peripheral neuropathy should include the following recommendations:

  • Limit calorie intake so as to maintain a healthy weight.
  • Use unsaturated, low cholesterol fats like virgin olive oil.
  • Limit your intake of fats to 20% to 30% of the day’s calorie intake.
  • Eat small portions at a time. Eat four to five times a day.
  • Limit the amount of cholesterol in your diet to under 200mg. in a day.
  • Stop drinking alcohol and smoking.
  • Eat plenty of fruits and green leafy vegetables.
  • Ensure that your diet includes adequate dietary fiber.
  • Limit your salt intake to 2 grams a day.
  • Consult your doctor about the need to take vitamin B supplements.
