Symptoms of Leukemia

Blood reaches out to the entire body and the leukemia cells may spread out in the body. The symptoms of leukemia are completely dependent on the kind of leukemia you have. Since some types of this disease develop rapidly and some of them develop slowly, the symptoms also differ greatly. The symptoms of this disease also depend on the number of leukemia cells you have in your body and where these cells begin to collect and pool. It is worthwhile to note that those with chronic leukemia may not experience any symptoms before the condition is diagnosed. The signs and symptoms of leukemia in children may be slightly different from those of adults. Here are some of the most common signs and symptoms of leukemia:

  • Swelling in the Lymph Nodes in the Neck, Groin and the Armpit: This can be observed when the doctor gives you a thorough physical examination and checks the lymph nodes.
  • Night Sweats: These are often the symptom of panic attacks or menopause. However, this is a classic symptom of leukemia.
  • Unexplained High Fevers: This could be due to many reasons but when combined with some of the other symptoms of the condition; it can be due to leukemia.
  • Feelings of Fatigue, Weakness and Tiredness: These may be recurrent or you may also experience fatigue and weakness all the time.
  • Discomfort in the Abdominal Region and Pain or Bloating: This is a rare symptom but it has been found in numerous cases of leukemia.
  • Unexplained Weight Loss: This is also a classic symptom of diabetes, but if you do not have any other symptoms of diabetes, then cancer is the likeliest culprit of such a weight loss.
  • Painful Joints: in old men and women, or those who are suffering from arthritis, painful joints are a natural symptom. However, this is also a symptom of leukemia.
A lot of times these symptoms may not be due to cancer. Sometimes, other health problems may be causing the condition. If you are experiencing several of these symptoms, you should visit a doctor. A doctor can tell you if you have leukemia by giving you a blood test.
