Types of Bulimia

Individuals suffering from Bulimia may fall into one of these two categories or types of bulimia:

  • Purging: Individuals who show a purging pattern may go on food binges accompanied by a feeling of loss of self-control. However, purging follows the binge period brought on by fear of weight gain or guilt. Individuals may resort to laxatives, enema, diuretics or induced vomiting.
  • Non-Purging: Some individuals suffering from bulimia may not follow the binge purge cycle. Instead, they may resort to excessive exercise, food deprivation or strict fasting and other forms of portion control over food.
