Prevention of Bulimia

  • Prevention of bulimia may start at an early age. Parents should be conscious of their children's eating habits. Moreover, children may suffer from low esteem if you chide them about their appearance, weight or body shape. Encourage them to eat healthy and exercise if you worry about their obesity.
  • Family and siblings of vulnerable or insecure teenagers should not be overtly critical about diet and weight. If you notice someone within your family or friend’s circle battling issues of weight dissatisfaction, severe diet measures, depression and erratic eating behavior, talk to them about eating disorders or encourage them to seek medical help.
  • Individuals with a family history of eating disorders are particularly vulnerable to bulimia. If you are aware of this history, you may prevent bulimia by making yourself aware of the symptoms and seeking medical help if you notice any signs of eating disorders.
