Pain in the chest, whether it is right or left sided may be due to gall bladder and liver congestion, especially if it is radiating to the back, but it could also be symptomatic of other complaints and needs to be properly diagnosed before you begin treatment. Sometimes, treatments for the liver and gall bladder, while being very effective, can exacerbate undiagnosed gall stones and make the problem much worse.
What you can do to improve your health and especially your liver is to give it a rest from alcohol, smoking, exceptionally fatty foods and look to eating smaller meals more often that are high in fiber and low in sugar and simple carbohydrates. Salads, small portions of lean meat and grains such as brown rice, lentils and oats will help rest an overworked liver.
If you are diagnosed with a liver complaint, look to what are called hepato protective herbs. Globe Artichoke, St Mary’s Thistle, Schisandra are all known tonify th e liver and protect liver cells from environmental damage. These herbs are best taken in tablet form as fluid extracts are alcohol based.
