A healthy vagina is odorless. However changes in the balance of the environment in the vagina can lead to change in the smell of the vagina.Thus the state of health of vagina can be judged by the smell.
The vaginal odor is affected by certain vaginal infections like bacterial vaginosis, yeast infection or trichomonas. Of these bacterial vaginosis infection is very common where a fishy or musty odor along with whitish and grayish discharge and itching is observed.
Certain precautions that can be adopted to get rid of feminine odor are:
Eat less of meat and meat products and more of fruits and vegetables.
Drink lots of water.
After defecation, wipe the vaginal area gently from up to down and then clean the rectum. Wash the vulva thoroughly with warm water.
Regularly keep changing the tampons as it may cause infection if kept for long period of time.
Avoid tight jeans and clothing as it may avoid circulation and because it is closed it may lead to smells.
Rinse the vagina with a pH balanced soap after urination.
Add few drops of tree oil to water and apply it on the area.
Take a fresh peeled clove of garlic, wrap it in gauze and insert. Replace the garlic every 6 hours.
Take an unused tampon and dip it in yogurt. Insert the tampon for 1 hour and remove.
Use condoms in case of infections. Avoid both anal and oral sex together in one section of intercourse.
