Skin infections can be caused due a large number of reasons and are a very common phenomenon. rashes and an infection of the skin can be on account of various germs and bacteria. Skin irritation and allergies can also lead to skin infections. A skin infection may be contracted from another person, due to contact with certain items or whenever topical fungi, viruses or bacteria enter the body through a crack or break in the skin. Our skin prevents a large number of bacteria and germs from entering. However, break your skin and your chances for an infection of the skin increases significantly. There are several symptoms that a skin infection may cause, such as: lesions, redness, rashes, swelling, soreness, inflammation and pus. Similarly there are various kinds of skin infections such as: acne, warts, allergies, Chicken pox, boils, hives and yeast infection. The kind of treatment required will depend largely on what the symptoms are and what the condition is exactly.

The skin is our first line of defense. It primarily protects the body, if any germ enters the skin; the immune system begins to work immediately. Here are a few general tips for a skin infection. Castor oil is known to fight skin infections effectively. The ricinoleic acid present in it makes it suitable for many kinds of dermal infections. You can apply it to cure fungal nail infections, acne as well as rashes and allergies. It helps in reducing irritation, itching and inflammation. All you need to do is soak a small strip of cloth in the oil and then wrap the infected area with it. Keep it on overnight and take off the next morning. Make sure that you have a shower after this and use a mild herbal soap if possible. Aloe vera juice is also very useful due to its anti-bacterial properties. A few drops of the juice applied to affected area 2-3 times a day should yield positive results.

Take a bowl of oats and some hot water. Cover the bowl with a lid and keep it aside for 10 minutes. Strain the liquid into an ice tray and freeze it. Once frozen, rub one of these cubes over the affected area. This will reduce the itch. Rubbing plain ice cubes on the skin will also help reduce any inflammation while also soothing the itch. Avoid any kind of fried food as they tend to prolong the healing process. Stay away from cigarettes and alcohol as well when you have a skin infection.
