Here's a recipe I have used successfully. You just need to be a little patient. It should be used in an area where your animals (or children) can't eat it, since it will give them heartburn too: 3 1/2 ounces of strawberry jam (or any sweet jam), 1 1/2 tablespoons of wet, canned cheap cat food, 1 Tablespoon of boric acid.
Mix together and put little balls around the ant trails. Good luck! Dr. Karen Benton, NDwww.countrydoc.com

Scattering cloves in areas prone to ant infestation will repel them.
