Can yeast infection affect periods?



It is highly unlikely that a yeast infection would cause you to skip your periods. Problems with periods are a sure sign of ill-health and unless you are trying to get pregnant, a missed menstrual cycle can cause nightmares. If you are sure you are not pregnant, there are many other reasons that could have caused this.

  • Stress: Stress today comes naturally to most people and even though it affects our life in many ways, we often are not able to get rid of it. Sometimes though the stress becomes too much for the body to bear and this affects the amount of hormones that the endocrine glands secrete. The hormonal imbalance prevents ovulation and therefore the periods get skipped.
  • Disease: If you are suffering from some disease or have recently had a surgery or a short illness, your body may still be coping with it and may cause a delay in your periods. Sometimes the periods can get skipped too. However, you will soon get your normal periods.
  • Change in Lifestyle: If you change your lifestyle, schedules or medications that you have been used to, the body takes some time to get used to the new life. If you are working late nights and sleeping till late in the afternoon, that too could affect your menstrual cycle. Being Overweight or Underweight. Obesity is the root of a lot of health problems. If you are overweight, you are causing you're your body too much stress. A lot of women gain their normal menstrual cycle as soon as they shed some weight. Being underweight or malnourished can also cause problems in your menstrual cycle.
  • Peri-Menopause: If you are close to the age of menopause, you may experience irregularities in your periods. There is a time period when the menopause begins its onset. During this period, a lot of women have irregular periods. Some might not have periods for several months before having one.
  • Amenorrhea: If you are breast feeding your baby, you could miss your periods. However, at this time, ovulation still occurs and therefore if you do not practice safe sex, you may unknowingly get pregnant.
  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: This is a common disorder due to which there is formation of several small or big cysts in the ovaries. Though these are benign, they may cause temporary amenorrhea. They may also cause excessive bleeding for long periods of time. The symptoms vary from person to person.
