How can I get rid of warts around my finger nails?

It is common to find small warts on the fingers, especially around the finger nails. These warts appear small and grainy. They are also very rough to touch and are caused due to small blood vessels that begin to clot. Viral infections can also be the cause of finger nail warts.

Here are some common home remedies to get rid of fingernail warts.

  • Over-the-Counter Medications: There are several OTC medications for the removal of warts. You can also get wart removal patches that can be used to manually remove the bumps from your fingers. Most of these products do not have any side effects, but they are required to be used daily. If you experience pain, see your doctor immediately.
  • Soaking and Filing: Soak your fingers in warm water or a lukewarm antiseptic solution for a few minutes. Then use a nail file or a pumice stone to get rid of the dead skin between the warts. Continue this for several weeks. The warts will either shrink or completely fall off.
  • Duct Tape: The use of duct tape is one of the most common methods of wart removal. Simply apply a clear duct tape on the warts, and leave it on for a week. Soak the fingers in warm water and rub them with a pumice stone regularly, twice a day. After a week, remove the duct tape and replace it with a fresh piece. Repeat till the warts fall away completely. This could take up to three months.
  • Potato: Cut a potato in two halves and rub one of the halves on the wart. Allow the potato juices to flow and let the skin become saturated with them. Repeat once everyday till the warts begin to shrink or completely disappear.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: Soak a ball of cotton in apple cider vinegar and apply it directly to the wart. Apply the vinegar everyday till it begins to shrink or is completely removed.
  • Orange and Banana Peel: Rub the inside of an orange or a banana peel on the wart directly. To carry out this procedure effectively, make sure that while rubbing, the peel is in direct contact with the wart.
Please note that it is best to consult a doctor before attempting any of the above home remedies.
