The gums around my wisdom tooth are swollen and it hurts to open my mouth. A knot is visible from the outside of my jaw. My tooth however does not hurt. What is a home remedy to make the swelling go away?

The simple way to treat swollen gums is to swish with Myrrh tincture. Put about 20 drops in a little water and swish for up to 30 sec. Do this a minimum of twice a day.
If the pain and swelling continue more than one week after treatment, I suggest you have it checked with your local doctor.
