Genital warts or venereal warts, are usually found around the genital area like the cervix, penis, scrotum, anus, rectum, vagina and vulva. Medically known as condylomata acuminate, they are caused by the Human Pappiloma Virus (HPV) and are either flat and circular, or cauliflower shaped. Sometimes however, there are no visible symptoms of genital warts and it can be diagnosed only after a thorough medical examination.
Since it is a sexually transmitted condition, people who do not follow the norms of safe sex and have several sexual partners are more susceptible to genital warts. They can also be transmitted merely by touching the genitals of somebody who is infected, or by sharing the towel or washcloth of the person. Sometimes new born babies get the conditions from their mothers; they are infected during the process of delivery.
Genital warts have been noticed to be more common amongst people in the age group of 20 years. People who are infected complain of itching or burning feeling in the genital area and the area around the genitals becomes pinkish or reddish in appearance. There can be mild to extreme discomfort during sexual intercourse for people suffering from genital warts. Women also complain of bleeding and vaginal discharge.
If you have genital warts, you should take care not to pop and burst them to avoid further complications. You can use simple home remedies to get rid of the warts naturally and painlessly. Vitamin E oil is often suggested for treating genital warts. You can apply some Vitamin E oil on the affected area, place some chopped garlic on the warts and then bandage the entire area with adhesive tape. This treatment takes approximately seven days. Onion also has beneficial properties so you can apply some onion juice on the warts to make them disappear. Alternately you can apply the milky juice extracted from the stem of a fig plant two to three times a day. Apple cider vinegar applied once a day using a cotton ball is also beneficial in treating genital warts. Apart from this, you should ensure your diet is rich in folic acid and beta-carotene to build up your resistance to the virus that causes genital warts. You should consume plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially radish, mango, tomato and green leafy vegetables such as cabbage and spinach. Finally it is important to practice safe sex and use condoms, instead of oral contraceptives.
