There could be many reasons why your child is whiny. To begin with, the age of two years is a difficult one. So do not be surprised at mood changes and general unpleasant moods.
Secondly, your child could be having any kind of trouble and he may not be able to communicate it to you effectively. Occasionally, this basic inability to communicate is also something that children find extremely frustrating. They can also turn whiny due to this. You should examine your son more closely for a week or so. It is possible that the reason he is so whiny is right there and you are simply missing out on it altogether. Try to see what the trigger that makes him whiny is. It is not possible for a child to be whiny all day, so observe him closely when he is in a good mood. You should also try to isolate the reason he is in a good mood. If you can catch the reason for his good mood, it will help you. For instance, if playing with a particular toy makes him happy, then you should try to present that toy to him every time he is in a bad mood. It is possible his mood will improve. Likewise, if you see that giving him something to eat puts him in a good mood, you could give it to him when he starts to get whiny. Of course you cannot feed him all day. If he gets whiny close to mealtimes, then this is an excellent option to try out.
It could also be possible that you are missing out on something basic. Maybe his clothes are too tight, or his diaper is not changed frequently, or he is going hungry. You should try to watch closely and see if any of these reasons apply to him. Please be assured that this is not to indicate that you are not caring for the child properly. It is just that children change very rapidly within this age group, and it is possible that sometimes you miss out on some major cues. You could also try to spend some quality time with the child. This may also be lacking sometimes. Maybe your son needs that extra time and attention from you. There are a lot of children who simply need extra time and more attention. It is difficult to figure out why, but it is true nevertheless.
