The skin under my fingernails always peels? What can I do to stop it from peeling?

By "skin under the fingernails" is assumed that you are referring to your cuticles. Peeling cuticles is a fairly common problem that can be dealt with quite easily. It just means that you would have to follow a dedicated program of hand and nail maintenance. The first thing for you to know is the reason you are suffering from this problem. Peeling cuticles are generally a result of lack of care of the fingernails. If you have been spending too much time with your hands in the water, washing clothes or doing dishes, you will notice that this problem only keeps growing. Excessive exposure to water and not adequate moisturization are what lead to damaged cuticles. It is a mistake to think that water is a good moisturizer. As a matter of fact, water makes things worse. You need to work towards moisturizing your cuticles so that they become supple. Once they are soft and supple, you will find that the skin is no longer peeling from under your nails.

There are various ways to do this. You can apply a thick coating of olive oil to your hands and wear cotton gloves. It is preferable that you do this at night so that you can go to sleep and allow the oil to work its magic all night. You will notice a difference within a couple of days after you use this method. If you do not want to use olive oil, use a heavy cold cream instead. Try to avoid using regular cuticle creams available in the market, as they may tend to exaggerate your problem further. If possible, try to get a manicure done once a month. A professionally done manicure will clear out the dead and peeling skin from your cuticles and give you a generally neater and trimmer look. You should also keep in mind that applying nail polish at all times will make your nails and cuticles unhealthy. This is because nail polish is basically a varnish which covers your skin and nail completely, thus cutting off the supply of oxygen from your nails. In order to keep healthy nails, you should allow them to breathe easily and freely. Fro softer cuticles which do not peel, you can also apply a thick layer of milk cream to your nails. This will be absorbed into your skin quite easily and will make a huge difference in healing your skin as well.
