Remedies for bruised tailbone

The tailbone or the coccyx is a bony structure triangular in shape, located at the bottom of the vertebral column. It basically contains three to five segments that are held in place by ligaments and joints. When this part gets damaged or bruised it results in a medical condition known as coccdynia and is slow to heal.

However with certain evasive measures and proper care it can be gradually healed.

One of the best ways to combat this kind of an injury is to properly diagnose the extent of damage the tail bone has suffered. If the damage is not extensive then you can use a massage technique that involves the use of ice and heat.

First massage the affected area by using an ice pack, after which you can use a heat pack to finish the massage. This reduces the swelling and eventually the pain. Another way to remedy an injury of this kind is physical therapy. Lie on the ground with your stomach facing upwards, keeping one leg straight whilst lifting the other leg and gently stretching it across the length of your body. You can also try walking to keep fit, but avoid riding a bicycle, running, swimming or any activity that puts a strain on the lower back until the bruise heals completely.
