A bone fracture is simply defined as a particular condition where the bones are literally broken or split into pieces. Some certain medical condition may also result to bone damage. This is especially true in cases of osteoporosis, a condition of bone deterioration in function that occurs when there is no sufficient calcium in the bones.

Isolated cases of a certain cancer called osteogenesis imperfecta also have a significant resulting damage. However, contrary to the perception of the common man, a broken bone is far different from a fractured bone. The complete severing damage of a bone is called a broken bone while the term fracture defines the type of crack or breakage in the bone that covers it.

Doctors in the orthopedic department have classifications for bone fractions. Its is wise to understand each classification so that relevant concerns like medication, care of the fractured part and the healing procedure will enlighten the patients. The classifications are “compound” which identifies both the open and closed bone fractures and the “comminuted” which defines simple or multi-fragmentary type of bone fractures.

At a bigger conceptualization, a closed fracture is that which involves cases where the skin of the patient is intact. The fractured area of the body does not show the broken bone to the surface. But cases where the wounds are involved are called an open bone fracture. At some extent these wounds may pose threat to the patient because open wounds are susceptible to bacteria in the air and the surrounding skin of the wound. The skin layer of the human body serves as defense shields to protect the entrance of viral elements to the body. The medications for the open bone fractures include the antibiotic treatment that will prevent the wounds from acquiring the risks of infection. In some cases of open fractures, a medical procedure called debridgement is an immediate solution. This surgical treatment is the process of getting rid of the accumulated dirt in the wound, contamination, and some dead tissues.

On the other hand, the cases of comminuted bone fractures have a different nature of treatment. The bone fracture that affects and occurs along a single line that separates the bones into two pieces is called a simple bone fracture. This case doesn’t require complex surgical treatment compared to the procedures administered in the patients with multi-fragmentary fractures. In this case, the bones were split into several pieces. It has however a likeable form of prognosis than those of the open fractures that may have shown contamination threats. Bone fracture cases require serious surgical monitoring and treatment especially in the cases of adult patients. Displacement or fracture gaps and angulation must be accommodated with significant nurturing. In some cases where the angulation or the displacement is much bigger than usual bone damage, manipulative treatments or called reduction must be done significantly. And because the lactate dehydrogenase or LDH levels accelerates during the breakage of the bone, injuries that where diagnosed  and treated from angulation and displacement may show a slower pace of recuperation compared to the cases of bone fractures without it.
