Asthma advice

Asthma is an allergy that affects the airways of a person and is known to be chronic and incurable. However the disorder can be controlled through the help of professional medical care and advice, which should be taken seriously as a severe attack can be fatal.

Asthma basically affects the airways that carry air in and out of your body by causing the inflammation of its walls. This inflammation makes the airways highly sensitive and thus the airways react strongly to any kind of disturbance in the air passage, causing it to narrow down and reduce the amount the amount of air going to your lungs. This leads to symptoms like wheezing (a whistling sound every time you breathe), tightness of the chest and coughing. In severe attacks the cells produce more mucus than is needed; this coupled with the action of the narrowing down of the lungs causes the  airways to close so much that, the air supply eventually gets blocked off, even causing death.

In order to keep your attacks at bay it is advisable to stay away from things that can instigate the symptoms. Do not smoke at any cost, take your medication regularly, and exercise regularly to improve your immune system. In answer to your second query asthma by itself is not hereditary, but the chances of developing it are in fact probably passed down from one generation to another especially if both parents have had or have asthma problems.
