It is important to assess the seriousness of your wife’s wound before trying home remedies to treat it. While small wounds and cuts can be treated easily at home, if there is unbearable pain, inflammation and redness around the wound, discharge like colorless fluids or pus or swollen glands then you should seek immediate medical attention. Different wounds are treated differently depending on how they occurred and their level of seriousness. With the exception of bone, all tissue in the body heals with some scarring.

Normally, your body works towards naturally mending the wound. Therefore, if the wound has not healed for two years, it may require medical investigation. However, here are some simple remedies you can try to relieve pain, prevent the possibility of infection and to help the body heal the wound.

The primary concern is that of infection. To prevent the wound from getting infected, clean it gently with water. The best way to clean a wound is with water under pressure. Use either a running faucet or a hand shower nozzle to wash your wound and remove all dirt. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the wound as this may cause scarring.

honey is an effective natural antiseptic. Apply a thin layer of honey on the wound to help the healing process. Don’t cover the wound with a bandage, it sometimes heals faster when exposed and allowed to breathe. Honey is also anti-inflammatory and forms a protective barrier once it is applied on the wound. Honey also aids in dulling the pain.

Apple cider vinegar is very useful while treating a wound that refuses to heal. It has properties that accelerate healing and prevent itchiness that occurs when wounds are healing. Applying vinegar on the wound helps curtail chances of bacterial infection.

If the wound still bleeds, applying sugar or turmeric stops bleeding immediately. Ripe banana leaves will help curtail any discharge from the wound. A paste of garlic cloves applied on the wound will help minimize chances of infection. Apply the paste for not more than twenty minutes before washing it with cold water. Garlic contains ‘allicin’, which is not only an effective antimicrobial but also speeds up the healing of the wound.

Myrrh is known to stimulate the production of white blood cells, our natural storehouse of cells that fight infection. Mix a teaspoon of myrrh tincture with four ounces of water and apply it to the wound. Allow the solution to air dry on the wound. Tea tree oil contains a strong antiseptic compound that is effective in treating wounds. Mix one and a half teaspoons of oil into a cup of warm water and use the solution as an effective antiseptic rinse for the wound.

Although you have told me how old your wife is, you have not given me any details about the wound. Is it a bruise or an open wound? I am afraid that without specific details like these it is difficult to tell you anything. You should try seeing another doctor who can help you. If it is an open wound that refuses to heal then you will certainly need to seek the opinion of a doctor.

In the meanwhile what you can do to help your wife is ensure that the wound is kept clean. If it is an open wound that refuses to heal or dry, then ensure that you clean it everyday with warm water. Use a cotton swab to clean the wound. Let it dry. If it requires a dressing then ensure that the dressing is changed every day. Don't bandage the wound immediately after you have cleaned it. Let it dry before you bandage it.  In some cases honey has been known to cure open wounds. A small amount of honey on a cotton swab and placed directly on the wound has often worked wonders with healing the wound. However, I would advise you to approach your doctor before you try out any home remedies.
