What can I give my child, as he is suffering from severe loose motions?



Loose motions are a very common ailment seen in children. Sometimes, their digestive system can give way and this results in loose motions. There could be many causes for this, such as untimely eating, overeating, allergies, bowel infections and bacterial or viral infections. Thus, in such a condition, the digestive system is not able to digest the protein and fat rich food, which are passed out from the body through the bowels. A number of home remedies can help to prevent loose motions. Eating a paste of dried pomegranate seeds with raisins and a pinch of salt is very useful. Coriander leaves soaked in buttermilk is also very a beneficial remedial measure. Application of ginger juice around the navel is also helpful. This remedy is particularly useful in the case of very small children. Children can be given a juice of curry leaves mixed with a teaspoon of honey. This can be given to them in drops frequently. Since this does not taste too bad, they will also take it quite easily. Mashed banana with salt or curd is also a good treatment to control loose motions.

Kids should not be given anything raw such as salads or vegetables. Carrots, mint, apple and yogurt are very beneficial in easing the stomach and intestines when suffering from loose motions. In terms of fruits, pears, plums, prunes, peaches and other juicy fruits should be avoided, as these are usually very beneficial in curing constipation. Since the body loses a lot of water with loose motions, you need to make sure there is high water consumption. Drinking a lot of water is helpful and will also help with cures. A liter of water mixed with a tea spoon of salt and 8 tea spoons of sugar is termed as an oral dehydration solution which works brilliantly against loose motions. Avoid giving spicy food to children when they are suffering from loose motions. Black tea without sugar is also very effective in curing the problem. A paste of dates and honey also provides relief. Consumption of ginger juice with water is also highly effective in treating runny bowels. Make a mixture of half a teaspoon of lemon juice, half a teaspoon of ginger juice and a quarter teaspoon of pepper powder two times a day is a very useful remedy. You need to administer this with caution, however, in case your child cannot take the pepper, which can be spicy.

Diarrhea or loose motion is the passing of 5-6 stools per day. Pears, fruit juices, plums, prunes and peaches are better avoided. Drinking lots of fluids are effective. Yogurt, carrot, buttermilk, apple, pomegranate, carrots, apple and mint are the protective foods during diarrhea. A teaspoon of salt and 8 teaspoon of sugar in a liter of water is termed as oral dehydration solution or ORS. Intake of fresh curry leaves is beneficial. Pomegranate juice or chewing the inner layer of the fruit proves effective against loose motion. Topical application of ginger juice around the naval region is an effective remedy. Boil a raw papaya in water and strain the same. This provides effective relief from loose motion in infants.
