Natural pain relief
I am looking for the plant root that when chewed gives a numbing effect much like novacaine. Grows wild in the sandhills of Nebr.--was used by Indians as a natural pain reducer.

Natural Pain Relief:
- The plant you are describing is snake root; more precisely it is Indian snake root. It is also called as Rauwolfia serpentina in botany.
- The main function is of the alkaloid reserpine that helps to reduce heart rate, normalize high blood pressure and also sedate.
- It is chewed by native Indians to get tranquilizing effect. Also used by some people to meditate.
- It's very important to take it in minimal quantities, after proper consultation as it may occasionally lead to psychotic depression and suicidal disposition in people having certain mental illnesses.
