Want to Let your Feet do the Talking!

by Sam Malone

Has this ever happened to you? You look like a million bucks with an amazing dress on, great accessories and pretty fingernails…but when it's time to slip into your shoes, you start raiding your closet to find footwear that covers your unsightly and neglected feet.  If you want your feet to do the talking, you need to put your best foot forward and give them the care and the attention they deserve!

The first step to getting beautiful feet is to get them healthy with some basic foot care tips. Maintain a good foot hygiene regimen. Wash your feet after a day’s work and make sure you clean the spaces between your toes. Whilst showering or bathing, buff the soles of your feet with a pumice stone and make sure that you moisturize your feet after your shower. Wear shoes that fit perfectly. Avoid wearing the same shoes every day, because feet tend to sweat and this sweat accumulates in shoes if you don’t give them a chance to air. Try and wear cotton socks instead of nylon ones.  Exercise your feet by walking with the right shoes on to help the circulation in your feet. Trim your toenails and keep them short.

In order to care for your feet, you will need to follow a regular foot care regimen. Recurring foot problems are sometimes indicative of serious health problems like diabetes, nerve disorders, arthritis and circulatory disorders. If your feet hurt and/or swell up regularly, make sure you consult a doctor.

Once you have healthy feet, having them ready to be flaunted is not far away. The easiest way is to go for regular pedicures, of course, but there are tips for beautiful feet that can you use at home:

  • When painting your nails, first remove the existing layer of nail polish and give it a day to air out before applying a new layer.
  • Apply a base coat of polish and paint over it with a polish of your favorite color.
  • Soak your feet in warm water for ten to fifteen minutes regularly. If possible, add bath salts or aromatherapy oils to the water.
  • After you have soaked your feet for 15 minutes, scrub your toenails with a toenail brush to get rid of accumulated dirt and dead cells.
  • Exfoliate your heels with a pumice stone.
  • Cut your toenails short and don’t leave any sharp edges.
  • Moisturize your feet; alternatively, you can also buy moisturizing socks that can be worn overnight.
  • Pamper yourself to a foot massage and a pedicure once a month.
With regular foot care and some frequent pampering, your feet will be ready to talk the talk and walk the walk!
