Cold, also termed as coryza establishes the infection and inflammation in the upper respiratory tract. Common cold in children is especially common, due to their reduced immunity levels. Rhinitis or running nose, sore throat, cough and sneezing are the common symptoms.
Cough and cold in combination are seen to be disturbing and increases irritability in children. Infection is transmitted through air. Soups are effective with garlic, due to its antiseptic property. A decoction of ginger is helpful in relieving the tract of all infection. Mucilage in lady's finger helps in averting irritation due to mucus. Boiling the vegetable and inhaling the vapours prove useful. Boiling a pinch of turmeric powder in a glass of milk is an excellent remedy for cold and cough. Topical application of eucalyptus oil is an effective remedy for cold. A drop or two is dabbed on the pillow for easy inhalation. Rubbing the same on the chest and nose also proves beneficial. Juice of a lemon in a glass of warm water with honey is helpful. Garlic oil with a teaspoon of onion juice is recommended for cold. Many of these remedies are difficult to observe for an infant. Guidance of a paediatrician is recommended.
