Health Advice and Remedies for Chlamydia

Chlamydia advice and remedies

A certain amount of vaginal discharge is normal and not a cause for worry. However, if the discharge is itchy and burning or has a strong fish like odour or if it is greenish yellow in colour, it may be a cause for concern and should be referred to a doctor. Causes of itchy vaginal discharge:

  • Yeast infections caused by the Candida Albicans fungus
  • Bacterial infections caused by Chlamydia, gardnerella or Gonorrhea
  • Trichomoniasis an infection where the discharge is greenish and frothy. This is a comparatively uncommon infection.

Natural remedies for yeast:

  • Eat plenty of yoghurt or supplement with probiotics containing lactobacillus acidophilus.
  • Apply yoghurt topically to the affected area
  • Take garlic or olive leaf extract in supplement form. Both are useful antifungals.
  • Drinking unsweetened cranberry juice helps clean up the urinary tract and may help sanitize the overall area.

All the remedies mentioned above are also useful for Bacterial infections. However, for bacterial infections you may need a course of antibiotics to destroy bacteria. You can ask your gynaecologist to prescribe a course. Do remember to supplement with probiotics after the antibiotics course. To prevent bacterial infections in future please take the following precautions:

  • Not using harsh and scented products in the vaginal region
  • Avoiding public toilets and baths
  • Wipe from front to back after using the toilet
  • Wear cotton underwear
  • Never use a douche

Also please share these remedies with your partner and any course of medication needs to be taken by both partners as you risk infecting each other back and forth otherwise.
