Pancreatitis refers to inflammation of the pancreas and is caused by gallstones or excessive alcohol intake. Keep these things in mind for a pancreatitis patient's diet: - Eat four or five meals a day consisting of food low in fat and protein and high in carbohydrate may be helpful. - Avoid alcohol.
- Adopt a liquid diet consisting of foods such as broth and soups. These aid in healing the inflammation. - Over-the-counter pain relievers, under the guidance of a physician helps. Avoid medicines that can inflame the pancreas, such as corticosteroids and certain antibiotics. - Supplementation with antioxidants (beta-carotene, selenium, methionine, vitamins C and E) is beneficial.
