Cellulitis home remedies Cellulitis is an extremely serious bacterial infection that requires prompt medical attention, particularly if the infection is on the face. Most commonly, cellulitis affects the arms and legs. The infection attacks the connective tissue under the skin, causing inflammation that can sometimes be quite severe, as well as other symptoms such as fever, nausea, and muscle pain.
The area of skin that is inflamed tends to spread gradually, and may also break out in blisters. In the later stages, there may also be streaks of inflamed skin moving away from the main area of the infection.
It is best to go straight for treatment such as antibiotics that is certain to work, as any trial and error approach to cellulitis can allow the infection to worsen and even spread.
When the infection reaches the lymph nodes and the bloodstream, it is often fatal. Cellulitis can also lead to other complications such as gangrene and meningitis.
If your infection is not too bad, you only need antibiotics and painkillers. Be sure to take these as prescribed, till your doctor is sure that the infection is gone. For a more severe infection however, hospitalization might be needed, so that doctors are able to observe your condition more closely and give you intravenous antibiotics.
