Living with Multiple Myeloma

The following suggestion may help make living with Multiple Myeloma easier:

  • Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration and reduce the protein content in your urine. This also prevents kidney damage
  • Exercise regularly to strengthen bones. If pain is keeping you from exercising speak to your doctor about medications
  • Eat a nutritious balanced diet to improve immunity and overall health
  • Alternative techniques such as relaxation, massage therapy, biofeedback, and aromatherapy may help reduce symptoms such as pain, anxiety, depression as well as relieve side effects of chemotherapy and radiation such as nausea and vomiting
  • Educate yourself about the disease so that you know what to expect. This will also help you decide on the type of treatment along with your doctor
  • Have a support system in place to help you cope and share your anxieties and concerns. There are support groups available online as well in case you can’t find one near you
  • Take time out for yourself and don’t push yourself too hard. Your recovery period is not a time to conquer new challenges. Eat well, relax and stay involved in your daily routine.
