Diagnosis of Molluscum Contagiosum

There are no specific tests for the diagnosis of molluscus contagiosum. Initially, your doctor may make a diagnosis by evaluating the lesions’ appearance. In case the doctor is not sure whether the lesions are caused due to molluscus contagiosum or herpes simplex virus, a skin biopsy may be performed to confirm the diagnosis. It is best to perform the skin biopsy and rule out any other similar disorders before starting any treatment for the condition.
