Causes And Treatment Of Breath Shortness Or Wheezing

Posted in Category : Natural Cures

You will normally feel out of breath after climbing up steps or after a run in the park and may also wheeze. Wheezing refers to a rough sound that is heard while you breathe. This is the result of the air flowing through the narrow breathing tubes or the bronchial tubes. These symptoms are an indication that your body is deprived of the extra oxygen which it requires as a result of performing some rigorous activity. It thus implies that you are unfit and could possibly be prone to a number of lung problems. Wheezing could be a result of various other problems related mostly to the respiratory system. The first thing that comes to your mind is asthma which could be the case but there are a number of other reasons that can lead to wheezing and shortness of breath. Infection of the lungs like cold or more serious conditions like bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis and so on are a few other reasons breathing can get very difficult for a person. Wheezing may also be the result of an allergy.

More than treatment, there is a lot of precaution and certain techniques of breathing that you need to follow to take control of the problem. If you are into smoking, you have to quit as that is the most important thing you should do. Being overweight can be another problem for shortness of breath and by simply following a regular exercise pattern, you can eliminate this condition. Your doctor might be able to guide you better on this but staying fit is all that you probably need. Do a few breathing exercises every day for about thirty minutes and breathe deeply as this will enable you to strengthen your lungs. Breathing from your belly that is inhaling through your nose and letting your belly move outwards while exhaling helps the air to reach to the bottom of your lungs. If you have been recommended the use of an inhaler, make sure you use it, especially before getting involved in any strenuous activity. Swimming is the best exercise to treat shortness of breath. If allergy is the cause for wheezing, try staying in air conditioned room as much as possible to avoid contact with dust, molds and mites. Having a dehumidifier at home helps a lot in this case. However, rush to the doctor immediately if you are experiencing severe wheezing accompanied by shortness of breath, skin turning blue or incase wheezing that occurs all of a sudden or due to consumption of a medicine.
