Have you heard of oiling for earaches?

Earache is a very common problem and happens to both children and adults. It happens due to several reasons like infection in the ear, nose and throat, pressure difference during flights, injury and or pressure on or in the ears, excessive wax clogging the ear passage, cold and cough, exposure to loud music or sound, insect in the ear, etc.

Oiling the ears is practiced to treat the above mentioned conditions and also to relieve the itching caused due to dryness. Besides treating earaches oiling the ears also helps to keep the eyes, mouth and nasal cavity healthy.

For an earache you can use garlic oil. Take 2 to 3 fresh cloves of garlic, wash and peel. Finely chop these and add 2 to 3 teaspoons of pure olive oil to it or pure organic coconut oil to it. Heat this mix till the garlic starts sizzling in it and then allow it to cool a bit. Once it is lukewarm pour about a teaspoon of oil in the affected ear. Gently massage the outside part surrounding the ear and open and close your mouth a few times. The person should lie down on his side before pouring the oil and stay that way for at least 20 minutes. This helps the oil to be absorbed by the ear. Garlic has natural antibiotic properties and helps to relieve the pain quickly and effectively.

You can also use a few drops of warm olive oil for mild ear aches. Warm the olive oil in a microwave for a few seconds. Use a dropper and put about 2 to 3 drops of it in the ear. Do check the temperature before putting the oil in the ears. It should be lukewarm and not hot.

Besides these you can also use pure organic coconut oil and sesame oil for the same purpose. These help to keep the ears, eyes, nasal passage and throat healthy. Oiling the ears also helps in vertigo and vision problems in the elderly people. The wax present in our ears is responsible for maintaining the balance of our body. As we age the wax produced by our ears decreases and causes imbalance. Oiling the ears regularly helps restore it and helps the body to balance better.

If your earache is caused due to the pressure difference caused during flights or a change of altitude then chewing a piece of gum or yawning might help to relieve the pain. Or simply open and close your mouth few times. Your jaw movement will help relieve the pain naturally.
