Every time I eat, my chest or stomach gets tight. Why?

Indigestion remedies

Gastritis or indigestion leads to a feeling of tightness in the chest and stomach after meals, excessive burping, nausea and even difficulty passing gas. This usually happens when you eat very fast, without taking the time to chew you food properly before swallowing, but it can also happen due to excessive consumption of alcohol or strong medications, stress and anxiety. You can combat this problem by improving your eating habits, taking the time to chew your food properly, eating three regular meals daily and drinking adequate water.

Try drinking water with a few drops of mint essence for immediate relief. A pinch of baking soda in a glassful of water provides instant relief to the feeling of tightness. Herbal teas prepared with ginger, blackberry, raspberry, mint and chamomile should be consumed after meals to aid digestion. Buttermilk prepared with a pinch of asafoetida is also excellent for problems of indigestion. An effective home remedy involves soaking fenugreek seeds overnight in water and drinking the water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. This is very effective in curing problems related to digestion. Apart from this, avoid wearing tight clothes and eating irregular and heavy meals. Exercise regularly, walking for at least 45 minutes daily, but never exercise immediately after a meal.

Chest and stomach tightness advice

I am afraid you have not given me sufficient details about your problem. You have not mentioned how old are you and how much you weigh. Have you experienced any other symptoms along with the tightness in your stomach? If you have experienced palpitations or dizziness then you should consider visiting your doctor for a complete examination.

There could be a variety of reasons for the feeling of tightness in your chest or stomach. The most obvious could be that you are overeating. Very often people continue to eat a certain amount of food no matter the actual requirement of their body. They have got used to the fact that they require a certain amount of food and continue consuming this. If you are doing this, then you could try cutting down on your intake. Instead of eating three large meals, you could try eating four or five small meals. Try to avoid drinking water or any other fluids during your meal. Instead you can wait for an hour after your meal before you drink a glass of water. You can, however, drink as much water as you like between meals. Discard all your tight clothes and instead, wear loose comfortable clothes. If you dress in tight clothes complete with a tie and a belt you should try wearing slightly more relaxed clothing to see if you still experience the tight feeling.
