Is there any co relation between a pts ferritin level and cerebellum ataxia

Ferritin level and cerebellum ataxia advice

A ferritin test is usually taken to determine the amount of iron stored in one's body for future use. Most doctors recommend this test to check for iron deficiency or too much iron in one's body. The test is taken like a normal iron test to study whether the amount of iron is stable or rule out as being the cause of any disorder. Patients with excess iron or iron overload otherwise known as hemochromatosis draw in more than the required amount of iron from food than is necessary. This leads to excess iron especially in the liver amongst other storage parts. Too much iron in the blood leads to the development of free radicals as it comes in contact with oxygen in the body. These free radicals cause massive damage in the form of organ failure such as liver cirrhosis, heart failure, cancerous tumors and damage to the pancreas. Similarly those with extremely low ferritin levels are diagnosed with anemia.

Cerebellum ataxia on the other hand indicates a dysfunction in the cerebellar region affecting the central nervous system. The causes of this varied and usually points to trauma in the spinal region controlling the cerebellum. Low or high ferritin levels may occur in those suffering from ataxia, but ferritin levels in themselves are not the reason for causing ataxia.

Cerebellum ataxia is a term used for nervous system disorders. These disorders cause a lack of co-ordination and unsteadiness. The causes for ataxia may be any kind of a viral infection that escalates or any kind of brain injury or tumors. Very little is known about this particular disease, since it is a new discovery and is extremely rare so far. It is, however, established that it is a progressively degenerating disease which places enormous stress on the entire nervous system. Over a period of time, a person may turn into a vegetative state with the complete nervous system and all other senses and faculties gradually failing. One of the established causes for cerebellum ataxia is known to be powerful vitamin deficiencies.

Ferritin levels, on the other hand, determine the amount of iron present in the blood and marrow present in a human being's bones. It is generally used as an indicator to reveal whether a person is anaemic or not. There is no established connection or any kind of scientifically backed research that proves a connection between ferritin levels and cerebellum ataxia. However, this in no way means anything conclusive. Since very little is known about the extremely rare and hitherto unexplored disease of cerebellum ataxia, it is non-conclusive to assume anything about the disease.
