What can I do about eczema of the scalp?

Eczema or eczematous dermatitis is an itchy condition of the sin which can occur on any part of the body; however the skin on the scalp is more vulnerable. It is not an infectious disease, but it is also true that it is difficult to cure eczema completely, but you can easily control it. Follow these simple tips and home remedies to control your scalp eczema:

  • It is very difficult to resist but the first thumb rule for eczema treatment is to avoid scratching. A starched skin becomes difficult to heal and bacteria can get in through the cracks easily which can cause infections.
  • It would be prudent to completely avoid the substances that stress your skin and trigger an allergic reaction. For example if you are allergic to milk or soy then avoid it completely to avoid flair up.
  • Avoid too much exposure to warm water as it can dry your skin; however it is important at the same time to keep your scalp clean so you can take a hair bath with Luke warm water. Cold compressed can be applied on the itchy skin of the scalp to reduce the itchiness and redness, but don't scratch.
  • Avoid sudden temperature and humidity changes. Also limit your sugar intake in food.
  • Wash your pillow covers and bedding often in hot water to wash away the dust mites.

Eczema is basically dry and itchy skin so the most common treatment a specialist would suggest is application of creams and ointments (to keep the skin moist and moisturized) that contains corticosteroids and anti-histamines.
