by Shaun Damon

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that is brought about due to a hormonal disorder. Also referred to as Stein-Leventhal Syndrome this condition is known to affect about fifteen percent of women that have reached the reproductive age. When a woman suffers from this particular condition there is an increased production of male hormones or androgens and a reduced production of the female ones. This leads to irregular menstrual cycles, anovulation (no ovulation), obesity, an increased amount of facial or body hair, ovarian cysts, severe acne, increased amount of pigmentation particularly on the neck, inner thighs and abdomen and skin tags.

Here are a few home remedies that can help in lightening your skin. Mix together a teaspoon each of lemon juice, honey, milk powder a half a teaspoon of almond oil. Apply this mixture on the concerned area. Leave the application on for about 15 minutes after which rinse it off with lukewarm water. This remedy if performed twice a week will give your skin a healthy glow while also lightening it. Lime juice is considered to be one of the most effective remedies for darkened skin, as it acts as a natural lightening agent. Mix together 2 teaspoons each of raw milk, gram flour and 4-5 drops of fresh lime juice. Apply the thick paste and let it air dry. Rinse it off with lukewarm water after 15-20 minutes. A mixture made by combining 3-4 drops of lime juice with one grated tomato, also serves as an excellent remedy. This mixture should be applied onto the darkened area twice a week, till you begin to notice results.

Grind a few mint leaves into a thick green paste. Apply this paste on the concerned area and rinse it off after 15 minutes. Rub 2 lemon slices for a minute or two, onto your underarms daily and then rinse the area with water. This is also considered to work well. Potatoes are also known to be great bleaching agents. Blend one medium sized potato and squeeze out the juice. Apply a liberal layer of this liquid on to the affected area and let it stay for 10 minutes. As an alternative you could also place a few thin slices of this vegetable on the concerned area, it will be effective too. Make a paste by mixing tomato juice, curd and some oatmeal. This mixture should then be applied on to the darkened areas. Rinse it off with cold water after about 10-15 minutes.
