Syphilis

What is Syphilis?

Sometimes we lump all sexually transmitted infections as one STD. But each of these infections is caused by different organisms and can have slight differences.

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection and has a lot of stigma associated with it. Sexual transmission is the primary and the most common method of getting the disease. A mother can also pass it on to her unborn child which would result in congenital syphilis. It is important to treat syphilis as untreated, syphilis can lead to damage to the brain, nerves and body tissue.

The worry with syphilis is that it does not immediately manifest any symptoms.
