Prognosis of Scoliosis

The prognosis of scoliosis has improved in recent years. Screening programs conducted by schools have helped to identify scoliosis cases in their early stages. An early diagnosis ensures that children can get the right treatment at an early stage, with either braces or just plain observation. Early treatment can also help avoid surgery in a number of cases.

Most people with scoliosis can lead complete, normal and productive lives. Women with scoliosis can become pregnant and have children with no risk of additional complications. They may however, be at increased risk of lower back pain during pregnancy.

The latest advances in surgery incorporate less invasive surgical procedures resulting in less pain and quicker recovery. These procedures are still under development and may not be available everywhere but this is a matter of time.
