Yeast Infection

suggested by Jasmina on Saturday, February 3, 2007

What I do is drink alot of Buttermilk for 2-3 days. I try to drink a gallon the first day so the itchiness goes away and then I keep it up for the next 2-3 days to make sure it stays away.

vaginal yeast infection and men too

suggested by jenn on Saturday, January 27, 2007

The vagina needs a pH of 4 - 4.5. When the pH gets too high yeast overgrowth occurs. I recently had a yeast infection that had established itself before I realized what was going on. I hadn't had an infection in several years and sometimes have a little itching after intercourse, so I hadn't paid close attention. Turns out my partner had it off and on for a month or so but didn't know what it was and didn't bring it up until I told him about my infection. So I eductated him (and he did his own research too). I tried yogurt for 4 days and at first felt slight improvement but the fourth day came and I felt this was taking too long. So I found a remedy in a womens natural health book by Susun Weed. She recommends 600mg of boric acid in "00" capsules inserted deep in vagina every day or so for two weeks, or it can be alternated between inserting yogurt or acidophillus tablets every other day. Boric acid is easy to find, it was at my local drugstore on the shelf and I bought the capsules and filled them myself. This is her heavy duty dosage which I felt was appropriate for me given that I was probably infected for much longer than I realized. There was noticable difference immediately. I inserted one each night before bed. I also stopped washing the affected area with soap because that creates acidic conditions for the yeast to continue growth. Just use water during the infection to clean the vaginal area. Wear only cotton underwear as other fabrics will create conditions for yeast overgrowth. Avoid sex, even oral as yeast overgrowths can also occur in the mouth. Also always tell your partner(s) and be sure they have followed through on thier treatments before resuming sexual contact. **For men Susun Weed reccomends soaking their member in apple cider vinegar or yogurt for 5 minutes daily for about a month. The soaking is important cuz the yeast can live inside the glans.

Bad odor - please read

suggested by Jacquie on Monday, January 15, 2007

You probably have a bacterial infection. Symptoms are burning or itching with brownish/gray watery discharge with bad odor. Go to your OB/GYN and ask about metrogel or Flagyl. No home remedies for it that I'm aware of. After you finish the treatment you will probably end up with a yeast infection.

Bad Odor - READ

a general yeast infection should not cause an odor. You should check with your doctor because yeast infection-like symptoms that ALSO produce a bad odor might be signs of an STD.

When you have a yeast overgrowth, you need to replace the good germs which used to be there. Probiotics will do this. Get good ones at a health food store. Take a lot--can't overdose. Even dissolve some of the powder in a few drops of water and rub into the infected area. Stops itching. Bad odor and yeast go together.

Natural Bacterial Culture - Yogurt

suggested by Lisa on Wednesday, January 3, 2007

I've found, to stave off recurrent yeast infections, it's best to eat 1/4 cup of yogurt each day. Make sure the container says that the yogurt containes "active natural bacterial culture" as this is what keeps the yeast in your body regulated. This will even work if you have a current yeast infection as well.
