Prognosis of Peripheral Vascular Disease

The prognosis for peripheral vascular disease depends on the severity of the underlying cause. Left untreated it can lead to complications such as a permanent numbness, weakness, ache or burning sensation in the legs. Lack of blood supply to any part of the body can result in gangrene. This occurs when tissue begins to die due to inadequate blood supply and can result in the amputation of the affected part. People with peripheral vascular disease also have a higher risk of heart attack and stroke.
