Diarrhea Natural Remedies

Diarrhea causes the passing of watery stools so frequently that the body gets quickly depleted of essential fluids and salts.

Overeating, laxatives, food poisoning or allergies may cause diarrhea. With diarrhea remedies, the fluid balance of the body is restored. There are several diarrhea natural remedies that help you to quickly recover without any harmful side effects.

Diarrhea Home Remedies:

  1. The simplest remedy is to mix a teaspoon of salt with a teaspoon of sugar in a cup of warm water and sip this slowly.

This mix has to be consumed frequently.
  2. Tea: A very effective diarrhea remedy is to consume a strong cup of black tea without sugar.
  3. Apple: Another quick diarrhea home remedy is to peel and shred an apple. Keep the shredded pieces in a plate until they turn brown in colour and then eat them. Or eat a cooked apple everyday.

The apple contains pectin that adds fiber to the stool. It also soothes the gut.
  4. Banana: Bananas replace potassium levels which are depleted when you suffer from diarrhea.
  5. Yogurt: ‘Live’ yogurt contains lactobacillus, which is a probiotic bacteria that helps in antibiotic induced diarrhea. It replaces the good ‘gut’ bacteria that are destroyed when you take antibiotics.
  6. Buttermilk: Buttermilk is a very good diarrhea remedy.

The acid in the buttermilk destroys germs. Take buttermilk flavored with salt three or four times a day for quick results.
  7. Fenugreek: Swallow a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds with a cup of water, buttermilk or curd, and make sure you don’t chew them.
  8. Mint: Mix a teaspoon each of mint, lime juice and honey together. Give this mix three times a day.
  9. Nutmeg: Swallow a teaspoon of ground nutmeg.

This is another natural diarrhea remedy.
  10. Garlic: Since garlic is an antibiotic, it is also a good diarrhea natural remedy.
  11. Lime Juice: Take a cup of hot water. Add to this a tablespoon of lime juice. Drink this every fifteen minutes.

Within a few hours, the diarrhea will be cured.
  12. Bottle gourd: A glass bottle gourd juice with a pinch of salt taken daily cures the extreme thirst that a patient experiences due to diarrhea.
  13. Orange Juice: Diluting orange juice with some water, and adding some salt to it, makes a hydrating drink.
  14. Pomegranate Juice: This helps in diarrhea, especially if the patient has become very weak due to the loss of body fluids.
  15. Coconut water: This is a very hydrating and restorative drink.
Eat small and light meals. Drink lentil and vegetable soups, fruit juices, eat rice porridge and avoid spicy foods, chocolates and dairy products like milk. The aim is to replenish the loss of nutrients.

Certain precautions can be taken against contracting diarrhea. Wash and dry hands thoroughly before meals. Do not eat foods or consume water from wayside stalls. Eat freshly cooked meals.

If the symptoms do not improve in three days, you should consult a doctor.
