Prognosis of Hepatic Encephalopathy

Prognosis of Hepatic Encephalopathy may depend on whether the symptoms experienced by the patient are mild or severe.
  • Recent studies reveal that even mild or minimal Hepatic Encephalopathy results in minor distortions in an individual's motor skills and decision-making process. This may increase the risk of motor accidents amongst Hepatic Encephalopathy patients.
  • Hepatic Encephalopathy maybe treated via drugs and medications targeted at controlling liver damage or eliminating symptoms of liver or kidney disease. Without proper treatment, patients suffering from Hepatic Encephalopathy may slip into a coma.
  • Hepatic Encephalopathy may cause temporary or irreversible brain damage. Some patients undergoing treatment may suffer from causes that trigger a relapse of the condition.
  • Acute Hepatic Encephalopathy may cause cirrhosis of the liver and in some cases turn fatal. To avoid this, your doctor may recommend a liver transplant. Certain markers such as deteriorating liver condition, avoiding alcohol and toxic elements that trigger Hepatic Encephalopathy are important in determining the survival rate of patients.
