Drug Abuse Causes

Some common causes of drug abuse include:

  • Peer pressure
  • Disturbed childhood
  • Broken homes / domestic violence / irresponsible parents
  • Hereditary use of drugs
  • Lack of self-esteem and confidence
  • Easy availability of drugs
  • Easy access to money

Drug abuse is a mental health problem and like all other mental health issues, there is no single cause of drug addiction. Rather, there are certain risk factors that increase a person’s chance of becoming an addict or developing a drug abuse disorder.
