Living with Bipolar Disorder

Living with bipolar disorder is not easy. It can have severe repercussions on your life and your relationships with others but it doesn’t have to run your life. In order to cope with bipolar disorder, you need to:

  • Educate yourself about the condition. The more you know, the better choices you can make regarding treatment and recovery
  • Reduce stress by trying alternative techniques such as yoga, deep breathing, and meditation
  • Ask for help. Join a support group or visit a counselor for help and encouragement
  • Make healthy choices regarding your diet, habits, and exercise routine and sleeping schedule
  • Develop a daily routine
  • Build new relationships
  • Keep a track of your symptoms and moods so that treatment can be meted out immediately
  • Have patience. There is no immediate cure when it comes to bipolar disorder. You need to trust in the treatment process and your doctor as it can take time to find the right combination of treatments that works for you.
