Living with Bell's Palsy

There is no definite way to prevent Bell’s palsy, but there are several steps you can take to reduce the risks of this disorder. This condition is usually caused by a virus; therefore, avoiding the virus is the best way to reduce the risks of this condition. Given below are a few tips that could help prevent Bell’s palsy to some extent:

  • Wash your hands frequently, in order to avoid cold and the flu.
  • When engaging in certain sports activities, protect your face with a facial shield.
  • In case you are camping, or are walking in wooded areas, wear a long sleeved shirt and long trousers.
  • Exercise caution when you are in close contact with a person who has been affected by mononucleosis.
  • Wear a condom whenever you are engaging in sexual activity, as the herpes simplex virus gets transmitted from one person to the other, through sexual contact.
These methods to prevent Bell’s palsy only reduce your chances of suffering from the condition. However, you may get this disorder, or experience a relapse in spite of following all the steps mentioned above.
