How to get rid of phlegm

There are several home remedies available to eliminate phlegm from your throat. Using ginger is believed to be very beneficial in treating sore throats and phlegm discharges, naturally. Take the extracts of cinnamon, ginger and carnation and mix it with some water. Alternatively, you may also use honey as a base. The phlegm from your throat can be eliminated by the consumption of this herbal concoction at least four or five times daily. You can also take the freshly squeeze juice of a lemon and mix it with a teaspoon of honey and warm water. Drinking this mixture is known to be effective in restricting the production of phlegm in the throat. Another home remedy that is believed to be quite effective is a paste prepared from the root of liquorices, granulated sugar, powdered ginger, a teaspoon of honey and white pepper. Consuming this mixture four or five times daily may also bring you relief from excessive phlegm discharge.

Garlic too, has been known from ancient times for its powerful curative qualities. If you can ignore its odor, consuming some cloves of raw garlic before going to bed can provide substantial relief from phlegm. A few herbal experts also recommend eating pears, as they are of the opinion that pears have a high content of natural qualities required to treat phlegm.

You can also use a blend of raisins with black pepper seeds to eliminate phlegm from your throat. Another remedy believed to be effective is to prepare a concoction using orange slices soaked in wine and then cooking it the next day. This mixture has been known to offer relief from phlegm and sore throat infections. Not surprisingly, whilst this home remedy has been in use for years it does not find any takers in the medical field. Another alternative is to prepare a drink by blending carrot juice in warm water with a little honey. This drink can be consumed throughout the day as it will offer you brief relief from cough.

It is a good idea to inhale eucalyptus oil diluted in a bowl of warm water. You can get rid of the phlegm by inhaling the vapors given off from the bowl. Using other essential oils like myrrh oils, peppermint oils, pine oils, cypress oils and jasmine oils are also believed to be beneficial in restricting the buildup of phlegm, and providing relief from cough. Draping a towel over your head will be effective in preventing the vapors from escaping whilst you are inhaling them. Remember to drink plenty of water during the day, as water is supposed to be a very effective expectorant.
