You can also rub a slice of lemon over the affected areas. However, if your skin feels tender due to the chaffing or friction, then it is best to use a very small amount of lemon juice as it can cause a burning sensation on the skin. Massaging the areas daily with olive oil works well to lighten the skin. You may also use coconut oil or almond oil mixed with a few drops of lemon juice for this. Gentle exfoliation of the skin with a loofah or a scrub will help to remove the dead skin cells that cause the skin to appear darker. You can use an apricot scrub for this and apply cocoa butter to the areas after exfoliation. A paste of yogurt and lime juice is also an effective way to get rid of dark patches. Apply to the skin and leave it on for fifteen minutes before washing off. A mixture of oatmeal and yogurt serves as an effective remedy for treating darkened skin. Applying aloe vera gel or vitamin E oil will also help in lightening the skin.
