Rash on ankle burning and painful spread to other ankle red scaly

The condition you are experiencing is caused by a fungal infection, also known as athlete’s foot. Athlete’s foot is not an uncommon condition. The fungus that causes this condition affects the areas in between one’s toes, and other parts of the foot that are moist and warm. Although athlete’s foot can affect anyone, sports persons are more prone to this kind of a fungal infection, and hence the term - athlete’s foot was coined. This is because sports persons usually wear perfect fitting shoes, and sweat excessively. This provides fungi with a perfect environment to thrive in. The most common symptoms of this condition are an itchy and burning sensation in and around the affected region. Medically, athlete’s foot is referred to as tinea pedis. People frequenting public showers, moist and damp locker rooms, health clubs, and swimming pools are most susceptible to this condition. Individuals wearing ill fitting shoes that do not provide breathing space for the feet may also experience this condition.

Athlete’s foot can be effectively cured with the help of home remedies. However, if your condition persists even after using home remedies, it is advisable that you visit a doctor who will prescribe antibiotics to treat your condition.

  • Tea tree oil is one of natures most potent anti fungal agent. Tea tree oil possesses effective anti bacterial, as well as anti fungal properties. Mix 4-5 drops of tree tea oil in 1 liter of warm water. Soak your feet in this solution for five minutes. This will get rid of the rash within a few days. However, continue the treatment for a week at least. Wipe the area dry with a soft cotton towel after using this treatment. You may also make an ointment using tea tree oil and aloe vera gel. Aloe vera gel forms an invisible protective layer over the infected area, while tea tree oil gets rid of the fungal infection.
  • The extract of grapefruit seed is also effective in treating athlete’s foot. For this purpose, take a spoonful of grapefruit seeds and crush them thoroughly. Apply the extract of the crushed seeds on the affected areas at least twice everyday.
  • For another effective remedy, you may soak your feet in apple cider vinegar for at least 20 minutes daily. This will help in getting rid of your infection.
  • Wear comfortable footwear. Avoid keeping your shoes on for the entire day. Provide your foot with a sun bath in order to eliminate the infection completely.
